Re: Replacement refs raising concerns
Look, Kosomo, I'ma help you out here, let me explain it to you, because it works like this -- this mess with the officials is MORE likely to get Goodell fired than anything having to do with Vilma in court or the way he handled the bounty thing or anything else. And trust me, the scab replacement officials are really, really looking bad for THE SPORT, not just for any team in particular. I assume you are a Saints fan and you would like to see Rodger Goodell gone, right?
OF COURSE the regular referees do a ****ty job. But at least with them you KNOW what you're getting when they screw you. Ed Hochuli, Mike Carey, Scott Green and those type cats...Payton and the players KNOW who they are, each of them, what they call, how they call, and players and coaches know how to handle it and what they can get away with, or how to deal with them as refs. So it's better to have regular refs who at least are a known quantity -- YES they are gonna screw up, but you can expect them to screw up in certain types of ways. And they're predictable about "makeup" calls, or just knowing "this guy doesn't like me" and so forth, when to argue with them and when to shut up, which impacts how you play and coach the game. And here's the thing about the Cowboys/Giants, for anyone who's interested -- the NFL knew the world would be watching, so they assembled an "all star" crew of the best officials they had for that first game. Picked them from different crews, just like they do for the playoffs, but this was only just one measley game. Because it was high profile on television. So now people on the street are saying, "oh, Cowboys/Giants, looks like the replacement refs did a good job, nothing to see here" but it's really NOT TRUE. That was the best of the best they have. On Sunday afternoon it's back to business as usual with the bungling scabs, like in preseason. From what I have read almost all of them have less than nine years' experience and only one member of that Cowboys/Giants crew had ever worked Division I college games, which is the closest thing to the speed and complexity of pro ball. It's unbelievable to me that Goodell could be so incompetent to let this mess happen. He needs to go. |
