It's a bad situation all around, <sigh>.

Yeah, Slo-Mo you probably remember how in the NHL they've had those suicides and other untimely deaths in recent years, which were linked to the players having been more of the enforcer type and therefore having received quite a few blows to their heads during their careers.

Although, I doubt that has anything to do with this case, as it seems that it was more of a jealousy inspired argument gone horribly wrong kind of thing, which led to the player taking his own life afterwards.

This was a unfortunate situation that will in no way impede the mega billion dollar entity that is the NFL. Did they cancel the NY game after super storm Sandy?

Best wishes for the surviving family members of both parties

yeah, I remember that ... they tried/are trying to make a connection between nhl-enforcing and that condition boxers come down with.

Neither the Chiefs or the Panthers will make the playoffs, so why not just play the game after the other regular season games conclude in early January? For other teams' playoff tiebreaker formula implications just calculate that the Chiefs and Panthers was a tie game.

The way I look at it, the guy was a coward, a murderer, and a piece of $hit. I wouldnt cancel a game over a guy like that. He apparently has been a derelict his whole life, according to another thread posted by AlaskaSaints.

Yeah, evidently the guy was a real POS, but I think you cancel the game not over Belcher, but because of the close proximity of the incident to game time ... give people some time to digest the whole thing ... for the NFL to show the sanctity of human life is more important than scheduling contracts and the almighty dollar or determining who's gonna' make the playoffs.

If it was a terrorist attack or a situation vital to national security, then 'yes', you carry on to demonstrate your conviction & resiliency, but it's only a game played on Sundays and shouldn't be that important.

It's another disappointment by the NFL (to me) in a disturbing trend of disappointments lately and I'm starting to go lukewarm on the sport ... IDK if it's actually the NFL, the fact that none of the teams I ever root for seem to make the playoffs or that seasonal affective disorder they always talk about when winter starts setting in, but something's going on.

"From the Kansas City Star:

Seconds after fatally shooting his longtime girlfriend, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher leaned over her in their master bathroom, said he was sorry and kissed her on the forehead."

So who witnessed this? Or is it some bleeding heart, sappy reporter trying to humanize this SOB?

Based on what I gather this report is coming from his mom (she was there).
