Re: Lions turn in an embarrassing effort, get blown out in Arizona

Nah, bash away my friends, not only did they lose to a poor team with a third string QB and only one offensive weapon, they looked bad in doing it. This is vintage Lions. Too many other teams have entered the league after them and made it to the playoffs/SuperBowl. Too many other teams have had bad seasons and turned it around. Only the Lions are stuck in perpetual mediocrity. Only the Lions ride this roller coaster. I'd start a 'Lions Suck' thread, but they've been so pathetic for so long, there wouldn't be any interest.

They lost to a team that was on a 9 game losing skid. A team with a nine game losing skid that still has a better W/L record than the Lions. A team with the worst offensive line and most QB sacks in the league. A team that the Lions couldn't touch the QB with their underachieving defensive front four until the fourth quarter, and then their overhyped 'superstar' celebrates like a high school player getting his first sack. How embarrasing.

These guys don't deserve fans, they don't deserve uniforms, hot water in the showers or a building to play in. I daresay, they don't deserve to be in the league, other than the fact the owner, William Clay Ford, basically sponsors the league via Ford Motor Company.

10 playoff appearances since 1957 and one victory. One trip to the playoffs in the last twelve years. Haven't beaten a team that's finished with a record over .500 in something like 5yrs, and is now getting beat by the under .500 teams as well. Tied the league record this season for consecutive losses after leading by two scores with 3. It just doesn't stop with these guys.

And no, this isn't just an 'off' year. They're not just coming back next year. This is how they do, season-after-season-after-season without end. This is Lions football. Since 1957.

Those who refuse to remember the past are doomed to repeat it.

From where the sun now stands, I will no longer emotionally vest myself in the Lions forever. This dog has been beat one too many times.

Sorry Dad, I tried to be a good soldier, <sigh>.

Oct. 6th, 1958 ... we traded Bobby Layne, similiar to the Curse of the Bambino, <sigh>. I was doomed to decades of fan failure before I was even born.

50 Years of Futility - THE CURSE OF BOBBY LAYNE - this site features Dempsey's NFL record setting field goal vs the Lions as just one example, .

The Detroit Lions and the Curse of Bobby Layne

The Humiliations - not updated past 2009, but browse around, you'll get the idea.
