Anyone remember before SB44 how falcon fans used to say "At least we've been to a superbowl"? That was their ultimate smack talk but it was true. Now the tables are turned and until Atl actually wins a SB, that will forever be their glory in history - losing in a superbowl.

Re: AND THE ICE HAS MELTED!!!!!
If Atlanta ends up in a superbowl at some point, I'm just soooo glad it's not this year.
They have enough talent to get there. This was their best chance for a while, however, because the Saints are back with a vengence next year. |

Re: AND THE ICE HAS MELTED!!!!!
I think it all comes down to the lack of one thing for the Falcons: killer instinct. Sure, they went 13-3, but in how many of those games did they just squeak by? It happened several times during the regular season. They had big leads against the Seahawks and Niners and let both teams get back in it once they took their foot off their necks. They pulled a rabbit out of their hat against the Seahawks, but the rabbit quickly jumped into a boiling pot of water against the Niners. I guess they were afraid they would be chastised for "running up the score". In our Super Bowl year, the Saints were winning handily in the majority of our games, because they never let up. The Falcons always seemed to put it in cruise control after getting what they thought was a comfortable lead. You may can slide by in the regular season that way, but when it comes to the playoffs, you CANNOT give the opponent any slack. It eventually bit them in the ass, just like I knew it would.
In short, the Falcons remind me a lot of any sexual encounters at my age. Start off strong out of the gate, and by the end, it's just a lot of flailing and flopping around until I finally collapse, but I still think I'm on top of the world. ![]() |
