Report: JaMarcus Russell to work out for Chicago Bears
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported May 28 that a slimmed-down JaMarcus Russell was drawing "significant" interest from more than one team. Among those teams, Rapoport heard, was the Chicago Bears. Now it appears the Bears will host Russell and three other free-agent quarterbacks for a Friday workout, ESPNChicago.com's Michael C. Wright reported. With only journeyman Josh McCown and former Wisconsin-Whitewater quarterback Matt Blanchard behind starter Jay Cutler, new coach Marc Trestman has been "intrigued" by Russell, according to Rapoport. The Bears' interest turned into action once Russell finally showed a hint of commitment in returning to his rookie-year playing weight of 265 pounds. No signing is imminent, per Wright, but the fit makes sense for both sides. Russell's preference is to sit on the bench while learning behind a veteran. Trestman is among the most respected quarterback tutors in the NFL, earning testimonials from Steve Young, Rich Gannon and Scott Mitchell for his Midas touch in their development. Nothing will be guaranteed for Russell, but this is a prime opportunity to impress after three years removed from the NFL. JaMarcus Russell reportedly to work out for Bears - NFL.com Interesting. Cutler has a great arm and so does Russell so he should be able to make the same throws when Cutler gets injured. |
W.T. Sherman is my favorite General. After all he did order Atlanta to be burned to the ground.
