Patriots agreed to terms with Danny Amendola, formerly of the Rams, on a five-year, $31 million contract.

The deal includes $10 million guaranteed. New England was unwilling to match the Broncos' two-year, $12 million offer to Wes Welker, and instead chose to pay a slightly larger annual average to a slot receiver four years younger. Amendola, 27, has played in just 12 games over the last two seasons, but is a more explosive player than Welker. Amendola showed the ability to play on the outside in 2012, something he didn't do at all in his first three seasons. The market was initially soft for slot receivers but picked up in a hurry. Julian Edelman is now the best left. The Amendola move should bring a smile back to Tom Brady's face. Assuming good health, Amendola could flirt with 100 catches in Welker's old role.

Now it makes much more sense why they couldn't give Welker 12 million.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

People generally don't know that seller and BB had a couple beefs. Welker saw the writing on the wall when his snaps were severely limited during the first few games for no apparent reason. Public outrage was fierce, so then suddenly Welker was back in the mix . His condo was put up for sale in October, so he knew his days in Foxboro were numbered
