lewis has been in the NFL a bit longer and has been where robinson is now. first two years fans were screaming bust. now he is a solid gamble that his play last year was a start of better things to come.

i hold out hope for robinson still. he just was not ready to become the number two.
No it took Keenan 4 years to get right in the SAME scheme Robinson was a top 15 cb his sophmore year maybe even 10 and he has 1 bad season in a new scheme where every defensive player played bad and now all of a sudden he's a bust and he needs to be cut That makes NO SENSE and by the way Keenan had 0 INT's 23 PD's Robinson had 18 PD's 3 INT's

Helping cbs over the top is a very big part of there job. Alot of times a cb has to defend against other wrs who become open an let there main guy go cause of safety help we had none last year Jenkins looked lost. Which caused Robinsons guy gaining huge amount of yards. Yes he made mistakes on his own to bouncing off tackles making bad breaks etc but its kinda hard to be good on defense when the whole defense plays like crap. I think our cbs are great adding aso will be even better but if or safetys don't play better an our pass rush don't get there poor p rob gonna be in trouble.

Re: Nnamdi visiting Saints on Sunday

Jenkins wasn't swatting flies, he was trying to figure out where J Patrick was so he could do Patrick's job plus figure out where he himself should be in Spags' scheme if Spags had actually had a scheme. Last year is a bad year to try to use as an indicator of the quality of player out there on the field as was the year before that. Here's to hoping we don't have to say that about this coming year.

Re: Nnamdi visiting Saints on Sunday

If things work out for Robinson over the next year or two i can see him as the replacement for Greer at the number one position if he can stay healthy. thats the big question mark with all CB. I have not given up on Pat one bit. i think he needs more time

Now the NFC is loaded with tall WR correct? That's main idea of signing players like Lewis is to deal with taller and more physical wr one on one. that is were the signing of Lewis comes into play.

Now adding Nnamdi after adding Lewis has me perplexed. Thats why i am not all that crazy about the idea. But heck if you can do a cap friendly deal with a player like this you have to do it.

If Robinson keeps improving and stepping up and Lewis continues to do the same how in the world does the safeties job become easier? Allowing them to be freely used with over concern about helping a CB. I know the DC will be sleeping much easier at night.

The simple fact is the defensive unit as a whole last year was to busy trying to do cover for each other. Its a trickle down or up, depending on how you look at effect.
LB were covering for the DL
CB were covering for the LB
S were covering for the CB

So with the addition of solid man CB. One of the support groups can be removed from the equation. We hope.

Now
S would be the ones covering for the LB as well as The DL

So finger crossed and hope the front 7 improves

Because it all starts up front. Thats why the dome patrol was so good. every player was able to do their job with little help from the others.
the front 3 (unsung hero's IMO) freed up the LB
Lb freed up the secondary

Thats why i keep waiting for the front 7 to be addressed with solid upcoming 34 players that are pretty much low risk signings like Lewis. Adding these type players only makes the rest of the defense work better as a group.

The last few years we were a bend do not break defense that reacted to the offenses. We need to be that defense that makes offenses react to us. You can win super bowls with a bend do not break defense surrendering FG all day long with a healthy Drew at the helm of the Offense. That is for the needs thread OT

If Saints sign Nnamdi

If we signed Nnamdi couldn't we trade PRob?

That old "young and hungry" line is nothing more than a myth. Being young does not make you any more hungry. You either have it, or you don't. Who do you see out there, who would be a better option than Nnamdi? Those guys are locked up, and the few who ever become available are at a price that we couldn't possibly afford. 31, going on 32 is not that old for a corner. He's definitely in the back end of his career, but he's got some good years left. He hasn't had any real injury history, he's in good shape, and we could afford him.

I'd rather that, than to pay 40 million dollars for some "young and hungry" player who has proven nothing. Remember Jason David?

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

That has more to do with deep sideline throws opposite the side of the field with the safety, no pass rush, bad zone play by the CB's LB's and S's

That can't be pinned on just the safeties.

Re: Nnamdi visiting Saints on Sunday

i agree were i can see the need today i still hold out hope for some of the talent we have already on the team.

lets see how the secondary adapts as a whole now.

i still fear the front 7 needs it more than anything.

Agreed, bad positioning and NO pass rush will make any secondary look as aweful as ours did.
