If we sign Asomugha, we let him and Lewis start. Jabari Greer is the Nickel. We bring in Robinson to on Dime packages or when Greer needs a break. Unlike what we're used to, Asomugha is always healthy and is in excellent condition. I'm trying to tell the non-believers, don't fall victim to the last two years in Philadelphia. The same people that say, "It was just the scheme," when talking about Greer and Robinson's performance won't give Nnamdi the same look over. This guy is an elite man to man defender. Just like Robinson and Greer are much better suited to man. Playing people out of position and out of scheme is never the right thing to do. It wastes talent. |

I'm curious to know what past performances would suggest that Greer or PRobinson would even be remotely capable of playing at the safety position?

The only asset Roman Harper has is blitzing from the SS position he can't go up against a TE much less a Tackle! So linebacker never but trade bait yes because Harper's skills are needed in a 4-3 where an extra Blitzer is needed because 4-3 usually doesn't have OLB like 3-4 has who are usually passrushing specialist unlike Sam and Will linebacker's who are olb in a 4-3 where they are assigned responsibilities to account for! |

Harper's not a bad tackler. He's been #1 or 2 in tackles on the team every year since his rookie season. His total tackle attempts/missed tackles percentage isn't bad either.
The idea of Harper playing LB has been discussed on this board several times. I tend to agree with you that he's too light and would have a hard time shedding blockers. I've read that Rob Ryan likes to run variations on the 46 defense, like GW used to do. If he plans on doing that here Harper could excel in the SS position. Otherwise, if RR is counting on a lot of coverage out of his safeties then I agree that the Saints should explore what they might be able to get for him. I don't know if anybody would be willing to pick up his salary though. |
