Re: NFL won't expand playoffs in 2013
Once teams plug in the data we will see even less return attempts. Watching countless balls sail over the endzone and then straight to commercial is not football. I'd rather the returner instead of catching it, headbutt the ball before it hits the ground and wherever it lands that's where you start. Something, anything, just not pointless kicking. |

Amen! Used to be one of the best -- and loudest -- parts of the game. Now when Morstead tees it up people in the Dome don't even bother cheering anymore. When there was a likelihood of a return you used to not even be able to hear the music, it would get so loud.

Re: NFL won't expand playoffs in 2013
1/2 the league makes the playoffs... Competition????
In what other sport does 1/2 of an entire league make the playoffs? There are already heated debates about 8-8 or losing record teams getting into the playoff's. Adding 4 teams would have put the 7-8-1 Rams in the Playoffs for 2013. The 8-8 Raiders in 2010 would have made the playoffs. Next they will be giving out little trophy's for 16th place. |

Hockey ... used to be so bad in the '70s/'80s, before they expanded, all but two or three teams in the entire NHL made it into the postseason ... of course, I know that interesting, insignificant piece of sports trivia because that was the "DeadWings" era of which Detroit was always one of the few teams never in the postseason ... <sigh> ... four Stanley Cups since then & you'd think I wouldn't be bitter, ... it wasn't always easy being a RedWings fan.

Re: NFL won't expand playoffs in 2013
Hell, just start the "playoffs" at the beginning of the season. The two teams with the best records play in the championship game! Even better, let the sports writers and coaches vote on who they think is the best team!! We could have a Poll!!! Yeah that's it A Poll!!! College goes to a playoff system finally and the NFL goes to a Poll!!! Priceless!!
