Ed Reed reaches deal with Texans

Ed Reed looks set to be playing elsewhere in 2013.

CBS’ Jason La Canfora reports that the Texans and Reed have reached a contract agreement. Brad Davis, an advisor to Reed, told La Canfora that an agreement has been struck, with only a few details to be worked out before the contract is finalized.

Per La Canfora, the contract is for two years.

Reed, 34, has 61 career interceptions, all with the Ravens. He notched 58 tackles, defended 15 passes and picked off four passes in 2012 for Baltimore. He added an interception in Baltimore’s victory in Super Bowl XLVII, further adding to his legacy of rising to the occasion in big games.

The Texans, who have yet to advance beyond the divisional round in their history, are counting upon Reed to replace Glover Quin — and to help push them forward in the AFC playoff chase.

Reed was N0. 35 on PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100.

Gonna be interesting to see what Reed they will be getting. I think its a pretty big risk he will start to deteriorate this year.

Especially playing for a team that doesn't have players like Ray Lewis, Suggs pressuring the QB.

In my opinion, Watt/Cushing>Suggs/Lewis.

Being in the AFC South division will pay off much like being in the AFC North, little production from offensive teams except Houston which is the team Reed is going to.

Anything Baltimore has had to face a good offense, they got lit up.

Yeah living in Houston I've talked to a lot of Texans fan and there excited to see what Ed brings to this defense.

Re: Ed Reed reaches deal with Texans

The little kid inside of me really wanted him here SO badly -- he would have been a great storyline (home town favorite, chasing back-to-back Super Bowls with two different teams) and he definitely could have brought us back that Darren Sharper-esque spark and chemistry and ballhawking swagger that we have been missing on defense. Just having a guy on defense that other teams respect and kinda fear, or that makes an offense think twice about what they are doing, it seems like we didn't have ANY players like that on D last year. I realize he's old and it's probably not all that, but I really really wanted that storyline to happen. Oh well. He can still ride in Zulu, even if he plays for Houston, I suppose.
