I don't think it's as much the issue of actually smoking weed as it is he's willing to go outside the law and not follow the program. It's a character indicator. Is a guy like that going to be able to contribute in a team setting and not be a disruption/distraction? Just look at the Lions.

Because the NFL still suspends players for testing positive.

I'd imagine thats why teams care.
