Teams “constantly” bring up marijuana with Mathieu
As former LSU defensive back/kick returner Tyrann Mathieu prepares for his crack at the NFL, teams want to know if he’s off pot.
“They bring it up constantly,” Mathieu told Bobby Hebert and Deke Bellavia of WWL, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. “It’s really about, they ask me, ‘Why couldn’t you stop and why didn’t you want to stop?’ . . . Those are the toughest ones. Those are the ones that you have to be most honest about. For me, the same thing I just told you, I didn’t want to stop. I just didn’t want to reach out for help. I thought what I was doing was OK, but it’s not.” Teams are asking the question because teams can’t afford to waste a draft pick on a guy who can’t or won’t choose football over marijuana. Mathieu has a track record of doing the opposite. We’ve constantly heard over the years that most teams generally don’t care about players smoking marijuana. Teams specifically care about players smoking marijuana when getting caught smoking marijuana will get them suspended. Unlike performance-enhancing drugs, to which the NFL applies a one-strike attitude, players can test positive for marijuana multiple times before being suspended. When faced with the reality that one more positive will trigger a suspension, that’s when players need to clearly and unequivocally choose football. Mathieu is doing everything he can to persuade people he’s choosing football. The question is whether a team will trust him. Teams “constantly” bring up marijuana with Mathieu | ProFootballTalk | |

Defense rich draft. He may fall to later rounds or not get drafted. I have a feeling someone will draft him 3rd round or later just for the novelty and to give him a try.

Re: Teams “constantly” bring up marijuana with Mathieu
ME 2 HELL I'll SMOKE WITH IN THE OFFSEASON LOL! Weed is already recreational in 2the states and the south is coming around LOOK U SQUARES EVERY THING YOU'VE BEEN TOLD ABOUT POT IS A LIE! If alcohol is legal weed damn sure should be how many times people do u know who wrecked while stoned on weed doesn't happen like alcohol and it's not even as harmful as cigarettes! So don't hate him smoking bud! HATE THE FACT THAT WE HAVE A SOCIETY THAT'S HYPOCRITICAL AND you can hate he picked bud over his team but I believe he's learned his lesson give the kid a damn break and I hope we get him in the 4th or even 3rd if we can get another pick cause we need Terron Armstead and Brandon Williams in the 2-4 rd range but I believe we will be wheeling and dealing in the 2nd and 3rd day of the draft!

We need to draft him and make him into a hybrid corner/safety who just kind of roams around and does whatever. Sort of like Polamalu. He'll cause havoc. That's what he does. He's the Honey Badger.
