Why Chris Ivory Would Thrive With New York Jets
While nothing has been consummated between the New York Jets and the New Orleans Saints, you still get the feeling a deal for running back Chris Ivory will be complete before the NFL Draft or shortly after the Draft begins.
According to ProFootballTalk.com, Saints general manager told reporters on Tuesday that he had in fact talked to the Jets about possibly trading the backup running back. Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported in the story, that Loomis also said that there have been discussions with other teams regarding a deal for Ivory. Trading for Ivory makes so much sense for the Jets, its almost seems that it would not happen for that reason. There has been a lot of transition in New York over the offseason, dealing with quarterback issues, coaching changes on the offense, Tim Tebow and of course dealing Darrelle Revis to Tampa Bay. The decision to deal Ivory may be the easiest decision the team will make in the next few hours. Ivory signed as a free agent by the Saints after the 2010 NFL Draft. He played college football at Washington State and Tiffin. At times, he has shown that he has better skill than former Heisman Trophy winner and first round draft pick, Mark Ingram. I am a firm believer that if a good player can be had at a minimum of loss (a mid to late-round draft pick), then a deal should be made. Ivory gives the Jets another change of pace runner in the backfield for the Jets, another weapon in the Jets’ offense and another set of hands for quarterback Mark Sanchez to work with. The Saints also have Pierre Thomas, Darren Sproles in addition to Ingram already in their backfield. The Jets were led by Shonn Greene, who ran for 1,063 yards last season, but the starter signed a free-agent contract with the Tennessee Titans. Right now, Mike Goodson, Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight are the only backs on the Jets’ depth chart. Why Chris Ivory Would Thrive With New York Jets |
