Tim Tebow waived by New York Jets

The Tim Tebow error in New York is finally, mercifully over.

The New York Jets announced early Monday morning that Tebow was waived by the Jets on Monday morning after one season with the team. NFL.com's Albert Breer and Ian Rapoport report that Tebow was told face-to-face by new GM John Idzik and coach Rex Ryan when Tebow arrived for work on Monday morning.

Idzik insisted on keeping Tebow through the draft in case they could find a trade partner or use for him. After selecting quarterback Geno Smith in the second round, Tebow, not Mark Sanchez, is the odd man out.

Tebow threw only eight passes in New York and rushed the ball 32 times, with great effectiveness. Despite awful quarterback play in front of Tebow, coach Rex Ryan and offensive coordinator Tony Sparano never wanted to use Tebow as a starter. And they had no idea how to use him as a backup. New York wasted a fourth- and sixth-round pick in exchange for Tebow in a trade last offseason that smacked of ownership involvement.

Owner Woody Johnson wanted headlines; he got them. He just didn't get a lot of victories. Ryan threw one, last useless verbal bouquet to Tebow on his way out the door.

"We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow," Ryan said in a statement. "Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped. Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason. We wish him the best moving forward."

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport has reported all weekend that the Jets plan to bring Mark Sanchez to OTAs and let him compete with Smith for the starting job. It costs a lot to cut Sanchez, and it appears he will remain on the roster this season.

Tebow, on the other hand, is now cast out into the wildnerness at just the wrong time. It's going to be hard for him to get a job at this stage, much less one with a realistic shot at playing time. Tebow will go through waivers and he's very unlikely to be claimed because of his salary. After he clears waivers, Tebow will be free to sign with any team.

If Tebow ever rises again, his stay in New York will either go down as a huge career setback. If not, the Jets stay will be remembered as the beginning of the end of his quarterbacking career.

I actually feel sorry for Tim. He was a victim of the media, the "experts", and the idiots alike.

Pick him up for league/min and use him at FB/TE/multi purpose.

He needs a market with quiet coaches and owner.

He'll be picked up on a one year by someone, no doubt. He can prove his worth by taking a pay cut this year with a team where he can actually play more.

Re: Tim Tebow waived by New York Jets

So ehm, well would you take him?

Ill be honest if the media scrum didnt follow him like it does i wouldnt be against bringing him in.

Ill explain why
If Drew goes down we are done,Wallace or McCown are not going to be able to keep the offense ticking over at a quick enough rate to put up the 25+pts we need it too.Tebow isnt going to be able to play that game either but he can run effectively and any RB that plays with him will pick up yards aswell. If the worst happens hand him the ball and let him and Ingram/PT run the ball and hope he can get the short passes to Moore and Graham to keep teams from stacking the box.
The circus around him is too much though and though its not fair to him thats the way it is

"Two receivers to the left, Garcon to the right. Manning in the shotgun, puts Collie in motion. Looks in his direction...it's picked off! It's picked off! It's Tracy Porter again! He's runnin' free! He's gonna go all the way!

I would, I can only imagine what Sean Payton could do with him.
....and in our case, there would certainly be NO quarterback controversy.

Re: Tim Tebow waived by New York Jets

I think part of the problem is he meaning Tim Tebow doesn't want to play any other position.
I agree the media didn't do this guy any favors and I actually like him. That doesn't mean i think there is a place for him in the NFL. I see him going to another league

If he wants to keep playing QB, his best bet is the CFL

He should sign with Washington. They run the read option and even though the status of RGIII looks good, who knows. The guy is a winner and can be a valuable backup in the right system.

Re: Tim Tebow waived by New York Jets

Its not that I hate the idea of having him, its the idea that he'll take up a roster spot on the final 53 that bothers me. We've got some young guys w potential and he could get in the way of their development
