Camp Buzz: Meachem 'won't be a factor' for Chargers
 

The San Diego Chargers have talent at wide receiver, but Robert Meachem remains an expensive enigma.

The former New Orleans Saints wideout totaled just 14 catches in 15 games in 2012 after signing a four-year, $25.9 million contract. He's arguably last year's worst free-agent signing.

CBSSports.com's Clark Judge reported Meachem's $14 million in guarantees might keep him on the roster, but "people close to the club told me they're convinced he won't be a factor."

The team loves Vincent Brown, while Malcom Floyd, Danario Alexander and Eddie Royal were more productive than Meachem in offseason practices. Throw in tight end Antonio Gates and pass-catching back Danny Woodhead, and it's hard to see where Meachem fits in. We wouldn't be surprised if the new regime washes its hands of him.

If they were to release him I think we'd jump on him in a heartbeat.

With Morgan, Toon, and Stills already waiting in the wings? No thanks. Meach gave us some great plays; that 09 strip against the Foreskins might be his most memorable for me. But point being, we've got younger and hungrier players already on the roster

If I was that dude I would STILL be sending Drew a Christmas card every year for the rest of my life. I mean Meach has totally proven it in San Diego, it's not like Drew was the one who makes guys look good or anything.

I'd add to that, given what the fan is able to see and perceive, there has to be a huge difference between playing with a consummate professional vs playing with a pampered crybaby. I'd run through a brick wall for Brees, I'd *****-slap Rivers.

I agree. You can never have too many WR's. We can always count on Colston and Moore to get hurt during the season.

He is not done because of the Chargers
or their system... His niche was his speed and he has lost his step. We let him go for a reason and the Chargers are not playing him for the same reason.

Bring him back. Maybe just maybe he didn't fit with the Chargers.

I wasn't upset when he signed with the Chargers and left the Saints, and I wouldn't be all that upset if he went the way or Mr. Ellis.

I don't think there's a place for him with the Saints anymore - there certainly wasn't a year ago, and they've arguably gotten stronger in the receiver department since then.
