Re: NFL could move Super Bowl XLVIII to Saturday or Monday if weather is frightful
This was a bad idea from the moment it was hatched.... Football was meant to be played outdoors anywhere.... That local would be fine for a regular game. But The Super Bowl has to be in a warm climate..... Its gonna be miserable..... borderline heavenly for the 2 teams involved but miserable for everyone else.

Re: NFL could move Super Bowl XLVIII to Saturday or Monday if weather is frightful
One hypothetical thing that no one has talked about yet -- the "home" Super Bowl team (in this case, the NFC team) is given the choice of wearing their colored or white jerseys. Wearing white jerseys in a snowstorm, or a field with snow-covered sidelines and peripherals, could be a recipe for trouble with the passing game. In the recent Eagles/Lions game, you could see that Detroit was struggling with visibility, and having trouble seeing their own guys down the field in their white and silver unis. Much harder time of it than the Eagles were. And there's that famous Patroits/Titans game at Foxboro in a Nor-Easter blizzard, where the Titans wore all white, and the Patriots blew them out 59-0 -- Brady was heaving bombs downfield all day, in the snow, to the receivers in their bright red throwback jerseys.

They scheduled it in the NE in the middle of very seasonal weather.
It needs to be played as scheduled. Period. What would Vince Lombardi say...? |

Exactly the way I feel. They scheduled this way because they thought it would be a novelty. Now they're starting to get "cold feet" and getting nervous about a game in terrible weather. Screw em. Play it in the snow and sleet. We'll see how the corporate sponsors like it.

Re: NFL could move Super Bowl XLVIII to Saturday or Monday if weather is frightful
Plus...remember all the background chatter in recent years about how, the league is having trouble getting people to PAY to actually go to the games, how more and more people like to sit at home with their comfy big-screen TV's and surround sound, their chips and their phone for their fantasy stats, instead of having to pay through the nose for parking/food/PSL, not able to bring anything in with them except a ridiculous clear plastic baggie, etc.??? Remember how we've been hearing that in spite of the NFL being so popular, more and more people don't like to go to the games?
Imagine a big huge disaster of a snowblind Super Bowl in 12 degree temperatures, with no tailgating and no shelter, that you can't even drive your own car to it, and sitting through a star-studded halftime show of million-dollar performers freezing their buns off, or maybe cancelling completely..if it goes badly, imagine what this whole fiasco is going to do for the widespread popular perception of GOING TO WATCH FOOTBALL IN PERSON, as a fun thing to spend your money on. It will be laughable. |

Re: NFL could move Super Bowl XLVIII to Saturday or Monday if weather is frightful
So we are up in arms about new rules effecting the integrity of the game but are ok with changing the venue because of weather?
The only weather that should stop a football game is flood, hail, or lightning. |
