Re: Michael Sam, back on topic
His examples of blacks playing in the NFL and blacks being QBs are apples to oranges with Sam's situation. No one is preventing Sam from playing or entering the draft. Not the NFL, Not the NFLPA, no one. Blacks were not allowed to play and that is discrimination and its a legal issue.
Michael Sam's issue is not one of being allowed, its being accepted, and difficult as it is for some people to grasp you can not make people accept what they do not accept. It is more similar to the military. Don't ask Don't tell didn't prevent gays from joining the military, they were already in. I am on record here as not being against homosexuals doing or being a part of anything. That said, there is a lot of emphasis being put on the protection of one persons feelings over another, and whether you agree with players that are uncomfortable or not, you still need to respect their feelings about the situation. The NFL Locker Room and the military are a lot alike. It is a very close knit group of people that function in very close quarters. There are some bass akwards idiots in both, but being an idiot doesn't mean those fears and or concerns are not real for that person. Try cornering a opossum and see how ugly it will get very quickly if it feels threatened. Honestly, I think the media is making way more about this than there would be had he just been drafted and played football. You would be surprised what people will accept given the chance to process it on their own. Is Teo' having issues that we know of? Nope, and you can bet your azz that more than 1/2 the NFL thought he was gay. We are all a lot of things, but we do not wear them on our sleeve and proclaim their existence every time we meet someone. Is there really a difference between being gay and being "openly" gay, as I see it, your daily schedule doesn't change one way or the other. |

Re: Michael Sam, back on topic
Another insulting attempt to equate the homosexual acceptance agenda to the civil rights movement.
I'm not even black and it pisses me off. |
