Can we have both Colston AND Smith, if the price is right?

So logically it is the QB that makes the receiver.

Yet another reason Steve Smith provides little value, we can draft cheaper and Drew will make that player better.

Our pass catchers and smith are cut from two very different cloths. Our Recivers depend on Drew beating coverage with laser accurate throws which is why they're non existent to a team with decent dbs. Because there is no seperation.

Smith Beats coverage in his sleep ... Oh and Smith managed to do something not even Jimmy could do ... Beat Richard Sherman again and again !

Like I said we sign him and in 2 weeks he's easily our best Receiver and if we drafted Cooks or OBJ that's who I would want to rub off on them for years to come.

He fits what we need in the slot as a guy who can definitively beat the oppositions best corner

He fits what style we are transitioning to , physical grind it out smash mouth football.

His attitude is perfect for what we are transforming the offense into. Play with a chip on your shoulder

I must be confused, or maybe we've traveled back in time to 2008? Because if it were 2014, you would know that Steve Smith is 35 years old and pretty much washed up. Why don't we just go sign Joe Horn instead? At least we know he won't go around assaulting his teammates in the locker room.

Steve Smith gave Panthers list of 5 teams as trade partners--Dallas, NE, Baltimore, San Diego, Tampa Bay, per source.

Dallas?
Is he going to play for peanuts.
The do not have a defense and no cap space

For Steve "small man" Smith? They cut him outright I think. No need for a trade. Still don't want him though as we are still recovering from Joe Horn.

Dead money hit? Totally worth it.

Unless we go with that plan, I am going with Just Say No to Steve Smith.

We have enough problems without bringing in a prima donna me first punk ass. I can just see him on the side lines now, yelling at Brees for not throwing to him enough. Pass.

New Orleans Saints

If you're an NFL wide receiver, you almost owe it to yourself to try to play on the carpet with Drew Brees for a season or two. This is the place where Smith could polish up his statistics for Canton ... and maybe win a Super Bowl, too.

Not if you can get a WR like him with a chip on his shoulder... something to prove to the Panthers.

Steve Smith on facing Panthers: There

If this doesn't say it...

“I want to make sure that whatever team I go to, they’re going to get the best, in shape 35-year-old guy they can get. If that happens to run through Bank of America Stadium, put your goggles on cause there’s going to be blood and guts everywhere,” Smith said.

Is Rome still on the air? He is solely schtick over substance and that is why he cannot be successful in any one spot.

Not a bad fit, the 'tude would fit biatch slapping Newton and company.
Yet, it could back fire.
Call it the Jennings effect.

(Smith would have Drew and Vikings did not have QB)

He's still on the air, but Gotlieb's show is better and he was not great at ESPN. NBC Sports radio is better of the big four.

You are neither. You recognize the man as one heck of a WR and you intuitively realize what a force he could be with a real QB like Drew - the first of his career potentially. You understand he was never the locker room issue that many would make him out to be and that it is okay to NOT be an angel.

Re: STEVE SMITH

Why was he released? The "cap" reason doesn't hold water.

You don't cut a WR1 to save $3m in cap. Or to save $3m out of the owners pocket.

I do not buy the QB crap either.
Smith had one of his worst seasons in his career while Cam Newton had his best (Most TDs, highest Comp %, least INTs, best W/L)? Cam Newton is not good enough to tap Steve Smiths potential but good enough to make Greg Olson the 6th best TE in the league statistically?

You don't do that, UNLESS you are going in a different direction because that player isn't getting it done. EG. Cutting Beason for $8m in dead money.

A man that is so disruptive in the locker room he is let go then promises "Blood and guts everywhere"? He is the polar opposite of Colston and that reason is part of why Colston is loved so much.

“put your goggles on because there’s going to be blood and guts everywhere.”

Re: STEVE SMITH

Y'all lame ... What we supposed to beat Seattle with some lay down kind of targets ? No , let you into a secret most studs in any sport have a fire about them ... That used to be coveted I don't know when it became a negative ...

If Ali were a boxer now we'd crucify him for his attitude. I'm not changing a damn thing about him or any other stud because that attitude makes them special ... It's passion !!! It's fire , it's staying up late at night crying because you want it so badly , it's pushing the envelope , and yes it's loud and intimidating when it's done right !!

Oh and I could imagine how frustrating staying loyal to one franchise for an entire decade must be when more often than not he found himself at the bottom of the NFC south and at home during the playoffs growing older with the franchise constantly up in the air , yeah I would've told a lot of people off during that time span myself

Michael Jordan punched steve Kerr I hear no bashing about that !? Nah he did it was because he was so passionate , nobody refers to him as a punk ! We know better than that !

We pick and choose our favorites and use bs excuses to further justify our way of thinking , that's human nature ... That's politics , relationships , business , monopoly whatever you name it !

Never has he been suspended for Guns , drugs , steroids , never has he held out , ordinary people just fail to recognize a passionate person at heart when they do see one. It scares Them to see a person on fire inside

Like when Ingram was getting hot and he knew it , I heard saints fans upset because of his bravado ... Like damn really ??? He's been labeled a bust and hurt most of his career can he be happy that he got his career back on track ?

I tell you what let's send another dull team to Seattle and see how that works out for us ...

All I know is he plays angry. He brought it. ALL the time. Regardless the score or the standings, the man played with fire. He didn't cause Carolina any issues. Feisty as he may be in the locker room, he was never the reason or the person anyone could point to as causing them to perform poorly.

I know we can't afford to sign him, but if we could I'd be screaming it from the top of the hill.
