Raiders looking at move to San Antonio: report
San Antonio (AFP) - The Oakland Raiders, whose stadium lease expires next year, are reportedly looking at San Antonio as a possible new home should the National Football League team decide to relocate.
The San Antonio Express-News, citing unnamed sources, said Raiders owner Mark Davis and two others with the team met with key people in the Texas city, including former mayor Julian Castro and city manager Sheryl Sculley. The Raiders would play in the Alamodome, which opened in 1993 and seats 65,000 for American football. Also reportedly in the talks was former US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Henry Cisneros, who was San Antonio's mayor from 1981-1989 and led the push to construct the Alamodome. Davis said he would ask the city to build a new stadium once the Raiders prove themselves. Raiders looking at move to San Antonio: report |

Re: Raiders looking at move to San Antonio: report
As much as I hate to say it, plus stirring up any bad Katrina season memories, but heck....it'd be kind of a fun road trip, if the Saints ever played there as a road team... if the Saints had the "San Antonio Raiders" on their schedule, it would probably be VERY easy for Saints fans to get cheap tickets there, including good seats, if the Raiders move there and continue their spectacular un-winning ways of the past few years....
....you have to think of these bottom feeder teams as places where fans of other successful road teams in their area can take road trips to see THEIR team in action....seeing the Saints beat the snot out of the Raiders, in a town with good Mexican food and cheap plentiful hotels, in a friendly, half-empty stadium....plus visiting my friends in Austin....I'd take that trip in a heartbeat! |

If I were the mayor first order of business before we even talk is that Mark Davis has to throw away the bowl he uses to cut his hair and sign a contract to get a haircut from a licensed barber.

I don't think old Jerry Jones is going to let this happen.

Re: Raiders looking at move to San Antonio: report
Now why would he want to go to San Antonio instead of going back to LA?

Oakland------L.A.------Oakland and now maybe San Antonio.
Geesch!!!!!!!!!!! I agree with you. Why not L.A. ....again? Really, there is a big market there. There is a big stadium. A few stadiums actually. |

Re: Raiders looking at move to San Antonio: report
Problem is Los Angeles has chased away numerous teams already. Why should they get another shot simply due to their media market size?
San Antonio is big enough. In fact the population of the greater San Antonio area with Austin, kinda like Dallas Fort Worth, is certainly a market deserving of their own team. San Antonio Diablos? | |
