With commentary like this, John Lynch isn’t going to get the call-up to Fox’s No. 1 NFL broadcasting team.

The former safety, who was the analyst for Sunday night’s preseason clash between the Chiefs and Panthers, inexplicably put Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith in the same class as Drew Brees and Peyton Manning.

“The guy is up there with the Peyton Mannings, the Drew Brees — those type of guys,” Lynch said of Smith.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

I have always liked Smith. As solid as any qb. in the league just doesn't put up the # because of the style of play the teams. Andy Reid traded for Smith and to me that says alot.

To me Alex Smith is like Trent Dilfer was

He needs to have a running game and a defense to be mildly successful

The elite quarterbacks show they can win games simply by beating the teams themselves, Brees has won countless games without a running game or a defense to help him, thats what made people realise how good he actually is

Alex Smith was never IMO a horrible QB. Sure he isn't Drew Brees but the guy always handled himself well.

Doesn't bother me either that Drew Brees is the standard to be compared to.

At one point in the game they flashed his career win-loss record on the screen, and I gotta say I was pretty darn impressed to see it all in one place like that. He's in that "All I do is win" category, like the song says. Quiet, unassuming, not flashy, just gets it done. I thought he got a raw deal in Frisco so I'm glad to see him have success somewhere else. But Peyton and Brees level? Come on, man. The announcer was just saying that for the fans.

Alex isnt bad or great, he is solid and benefited greatly in SF from their supporting cast and defense.
