NFL wants Super Bowl halftime performers to pay for the privilege
As it has grown and grown and grown some more, the NFL has continued to find more and more and more revenue streams.
The latest could be the Super Bowl halftime show. Currently a gig the performer plays for free in order to turn a gigantic international platform into the high profile and profits that go with it, the league now wants a cut. According to the Wall Street Journal (via SportsBusiness Daily), the NFL has asked the three artists under consideration for the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show to “contribute a portion of their post-Super Bowl tour income” to the NFL, or to “make some other type of financial contribution.” Per the report, the idea received a “chilly reception” from the representatives of Katy Perry, Rihanna, and Coldplay. read more Great Comment Here. Good. Brees is now going to have to pay Vick's Vapor Rub because it's his biggest endorsement and it leads to more smaller endorsements. I hope artists form a coalition against the NFL regarding the principle of providing a service, doing work, and being charged to perform work. Any concert hall in America or arena could make this same claim. They make the majority of their income from touring, not record sales.

Re: NFL wants Super Bowl halftime performers to pay for the privilege
Lets be honest here.. The Super Bowl half time show is a grotesquely orchestrated Karaoke/ Lip Sync of Autotune engineered talentless individuals that would not have a career in the music industry if this were 30 years ago. If all they did was dim the lights when I went to the kitchen for half time, it wouldn't break my heart.
Charge them, pay them, whatever. Just do something and quit taking market surveys of ideas that survived a brain storming session so near to the start of my regular season. |
Re: NFL wants Super Bowl halftime performers to pay for the privilege
What's crazy is how the NFL can make the argument on how much the performers make after a SB performance but they would fight with the last nubs of their lawyers extremities if Congress ever got serious about dropping their fraudulent tax status as a "non-profit".

They just mad because Beyonce didn't pay for all her electricity!

Re: NFL wants Super Bowl halftime performers to pay for the privilege
I guess I don't see the issue here. As the price of SB commercials sky-rocketed, everyone said no one will pay it, but everyone did.
Now the NFL sees another opportunity, so why not? The NFL never claimed to be a non-profit. |
