I could make a "Superman can't get hurt" joke here, but, I will just wish him well. Truly hate to see this happen to anyone.

Hope he's good. Football is one thing , life is another. As much as yall gripe about class I've found none on this post from us " classy " saints fans.

Panthers say he has 2 transverse fractures. They said it was basically the same injury that Romo had.

People were tweeting that he appeared fine within minutes after it was first reported. Under the circumstances, I find it near impossible to find any compassion for the guy that exudes classlessness with his unrelenting taunting.

Well, this is good news, not for any other reason than I don't like him

I had to go back and edit, I had no idea he got hurt. I thought he was okay. Well I don't really want the guy hurt.

I heard the driver of the truck that hit him is a Saints fan who is part of a bounty program...

I despise the guy just like the rest of us. But this goes beyond football. Saw pictures of the truck on the news. The top of the cab was almost level with the body. He could have easily been killed. When he's back on the field playing I'll start despising again.

I thought it was his O-Line that would almost get him killed this season. In all seriousness though I'm glad he's gonna be ok.

He's a good dude. I've got a friend out in Atlanta where Cam is from. He'd just stop by at the little league football games just to talk to the kids and sign autographs. Nobody had to ask him. He just does it. Showboating on the field isn't indicative of being a bad guy.

I agree on showboating.

I obviously do not know the man so calm only go by the persona you see in the press etc.

I understand. I just don't understand why he's so disliked. RG3 gets the same treatment. They aren't catching rape charges like Big Ben or murder cases like Hernandez.

A mixture of reasons i guess. Middle classes don't want to be seen to like things regarded as classless etc, team bias and dare I bring up race. My love of boxing predates my massive interest of the NFL by over a decade and I love reading and watching old fights and it was the same in boxing. A black fighter like Floyd Patterson or Joe Louis was loved were as a outgoing ,flamboyant Ali or Jack Johnson was despised by the masses.
There is also what people see, I rarely meet athletes so my access to them is on TV etc and Newton doesn't come across well, same as reading his history of off field issues in college.

A franchise QB driving a 1998 pickup truck? sounds more like Juice Newton, not Cam Newton

Showing up for promo events doesn't make you a good guy.

I am not going to say I am glad the guy had an accident. That is not cool.
It is good he was not seriously hurt.
This is the very end of the season so he should sit out with those injuries.

I do not like him very much because he is a lil' crybaby.

It wasn't a promo event. He just randomly showed up at a pop warner game because he was passing by and saw them playing. Although you're right, it doesn't mean he's a good guy. But I'd take that as an indication of his character way before I judge him for showboating.

"I believe that a person should not be thought of as a bad person because of some senseless mistake that they made, " said Newton.

Grand theft, burglary, and obstructing justice are not a "mistake", they are serious crimes. He paid his debt to society but no way I would ever consider him a good person, reformed maybe but not good. A good person would never even consider committing those crimes.

I've got to disagree, because everybody has a vice or bad moments in life. If the judgement is this harsh then there are no good people in this world. I don't have a criminal record, but I've done bad things. That goes for most people.

It's unfortunate but he will always be a former criminal. There is no way around it. He'll never have to worry about obtaining a secret clearance or being trusted beyond playing a game but if he ever tried to go that route he would be rejected. In those terms he is a bad candidate. Being reformed with a good track record will also not change it.

A man always has the capacity to change and should be given every chance to do so.

Well said. Its called growing up.

I've done terrible things myself, but I've been forgiven and have learned from those mistakes and its made me a much better person today than I was 30 years ago.

I'm not convinced that Cam Newton has learned from his though. He still seems quite immature and self-centered. I don't think he's grown up one bit.

I could be wrong, but seldom am.:p

Cam Newton: 'soMEone is supposed to be dead or severly injured'

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-sh...183948214.html

No.

I object.

As a former General Motors noise-vibration-safety & crash engineer, I strenuously object.

Looking at that vehicle, albeit a Dodge, it did exactly what it was designed to do in such a situation ... collapse around the cab and maintain a crush-free environment for driver & passengers. The National Transportation Safety Board requires a minimum 13 designated crash tests be performed on vehicles prior to being made available to the public, one being a 'roll-over' test. (GM conducts over 30, maybe consider that on your next purchase). There is room to live in those vehicles and as long as he was properly seat-belted in, he probably had more chance of being killed on the field than in a roll-over, just sayin',. Maybe don't put a lift-kit on the next one, eh?

But Cam probably doesn't know that, ... just "Cam being Cam", I guess. Maybe he could send some Subway coupons to the Safety & Crash guys out at the Dodge Truck Plant in Warren, MI or wherever they got that group now, :).

You were in a low-speed rollover Cam, nothing 'life-threatening' going on here ... don't make it out to be more than it actually was, ... god-speed getting well ... after Wk #17, ;).
