Patriots' Tom Brady suspended 4 games
The Patriots will begin their Super Bowl title defense without the services of the franchise's greatest all-time player.
The NFL announced Monday that Tom Brady has been suspended without pay for four games for violating the NFL policy on the integrity of the game. This news comes less than a week after independent investigator Ted Wells found that it was "more probable than not" that Brady was "at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities" regarding the deflation of Patriots game balls used in the AFC Championship Game against the Colts. The team will also be fined $1 million and will forfeit a 2016 first rounder and 2017 fourth-round selection in the NFL Draft. Last year's second-round pick Jimmy Garoppolo is expected get the starting nod against the Pittsburgh Steelers when the season gets underway September 10. Brady will return when the Patriots take on the Colts in Week 6. These will be the first games that Brady has missed since he tore his ACL in Week 1 of the 2008 season. Patriots owner Robert Kraft commented on the matter last week, saying his team "had done nothing inappropriate in this process or in violation of the NFL rules." He indicated, however, the team would accept any punishment the league hands down. The story first became a national topic in the build up to the Super Bowl. Both Brady and Belichick vehemently denied doing anything wrong to the footballs before the game against the Colts. "At no time was there any intent -- whatsoever -- to try and compromise the integrity of the game," Belichick said back in January. I think it's kind of ridiculous that they could suspend them without real evidence... but they did the same thing to us... so meh.

I know it'll be reduced down probably.... and quite frankly I could give a damn about Tom Brady, but I mean has anyone read the report. Everything in it was incredibly circumstantial. The idea that they could suspend someone based on it is absurd.

Not only is it a slap on the wrist but the punishment is a crock of ****. If not for the Saints Id be done with the NFL as long as Chief Dumbf**k is the commissioner.

I think it's the right call. Really sick of them lying and never admitting any wrong doing, that's twice now they were caught pretty much red handed and he claims bs both times. Just admit you cheated, you got caught.
Own it. And Kraft is still running his mouth. He and Brady both put targets on their backs by making a mockery of the situation. |

I watched Brady on Letterman turning it into a comedy bit, again, the investigation was not complete, he also refused to give up his texts. I'm sitting here watching NFL network,and 'deflategate' is the hot topic for at least an hour and a half now and analysts and ex-patriot players are coming out of the woodworks supporting the Pats and saying the punishment does not fit the crime and they prepare harder than anybody else blah,blah,blah.. Does anybody else remember the Saints getting that kind of treatment? All I remember is our team being drug through the mud and disgraced like a piece of trash.

I was in disbelief here for a bit when I saw this . Really ? NFL did WHAT to the NEPats...NAH!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't be true!
It is good pr for NFL and Goodell. Satisfies fans and the other teams and the media too. Do something!! The something is very minor for a something you say, well, did they or didn't they do . NEPats and fans should just take it take it for what it is . The fine, lost of picks, and 4-game suspension for TB is really minor. |

NFL Kangaroo Court. Saints got hosed. Patriots got hosed. Panthers having to pay Hardy got hosed. Ray Rice got hosed by getting his original punishment raised after the video the the NFL Office saw first came out. The Falclowns cheating for two years and getting tapped gently on the wrist. No rhyme or reason.

I am stumped. Saints fans should be angry at the NFL not the pats. did anyone read the report? It is almost as big of a joke as ours. would of could of should of in a game of horse shoes and hand grenades.
Biggest disgrace to the NFL name is the the NFL taking millions from the defense department for honoring the troops at a time when the government is screwing troops over. to me that is the true disgrace to the NFL. |

Pats HAD to be hit after what this tyrant of a commissioner did to the Saints and others.
That being said - we've all been screwed as football fans thanks to Goodell. He will be the downfall of the league if he stays much longer... |

I'm pretty shocked that they got this much punishment. I wanted to see it happen only because of what the NFL did to us, and not as much about the act of deflating balls, itself. I fully expected a slap on the wrist.
I think Brady's suspension will easily be reduced to two games. The evidence, though circumstantial, was stronger than anything they had against us. With the bounty crap it was all about terminology and what was said in pre or postgame rants. But on the field there was no such activity that would indicate anybody was trying to hurt anyone. There were big hits and sometimes injuries DO HAPPEN in the NFL but the targeting just wasn't there. At least with the deflated balls, we know they were tested and were all below the legal limit, and were the same exact PSI. They may not have proved who was at fault or how long it's been going on, but we at least had something to go on. Yet the public outcry is unbelievable right now in comparison to what it was for the Saints. NOW everyone wants Roger to show the evidence, whereas we Saints fans were in the minority when we were screaming for it. |

Ex-Saints and retired Pro Bowl quarterback Jeff Blake confessed in an interview that removing air from footballs was common when he played in the NFL from 1992-2005.
"I'm just going to let the cat of the bag, every team does it, every game, it has been since I played," the ex-Jets QB said Wednesday in a radio interview on the "Midday 180" show on Nashville's 104.5 The Zone. "Cause when you take the balls out of the bag, they are rock hard. And you can't feel the ball as well. It's too hard. "Everybody puts the pin in and takes just enough air out of the ball that you can feel it a little better. But it's not the point to where it's flat. So I don't know what the big deal is. It's not something that's not been done for 20 years." Blake says that he'd order ball boys to let air out of his footballs just before the start of games during his entire NFL career, which included time with the New Orleans Saints in 2000 and 2001. |

Times have changed since Blake. Cameras, smartphones everywhere. You can't do that stuff anymore, along with a lot of other things and get away with it as easily.
