The journey of Chris Ivory: Dismissed, discarded and, finally, celebrated

He was a revelation, leading the Saints in rushing as a rookie -- 716 yards and a 5.2 yards-per-carry average. His star burned out quickly, though, as injuries mounted in 2011 and 2012. He was buried on a crowded depth chart that included Mark Ingram and Darren Sproles. The Saints gave up on Ivory and traded him to the Jets for a fourth-round pick during the 2013 draft.

Once again, he was unable to finish.

"I don't know why they traded him," said a longtime personnel executive, speaking on condition of anonymity. "To me, he was the best back they had."

Darren Sproles, Pierre Thomas and Mark Ingram disagree.

Ivory is a beast. I would have kept him.

Is that a 2013 article? No? Wonder why ...

Here's why. He was buried on a crowded depth chart that included Mark Ingram and Darren Sproles. That's why.

One of the greatest who could not stay on the field long enough to be one of the greatest. Not his fault. Man had some serious heart, some of those runs were just nasty, looked like the Predator with a football.

A lot of players like that, just could not stay on the field. One of the greatest of the non greats:(. Brees could have been one of those players. Breaux, no telling where he would be right now if for not getting slowed down.

... so, after the Jets-Raiders game, Ivory's journey looks more like a trip to the grocery. 15 carries for 17 yards, the longest a 7 yard run. Ouch!

We should trade Brees for this Ivory guy, he sounds like a beast!

Ivory's good luck charm, Fitzpatrick, is injured.

And are we about to witness the QB for the jets we passed on?

Well after KRob's injury, I'd really like to have Chris Ivory right about now.

Ivory was always injured, he'd play awesome for one game then miss 2-3

.. so, after the Jets-Jaguars game, it now seems the journey is to the curb to fetch the paper.

k rob will be given away also at some time; paytons love for ingram will keep him from ever being a feature back. it seems whoever runs with passion and always hardly ever lets first man bring him down is always second choice for coach. mark ingram has blown his time with saints for me, I've seen him run with passion in a couple of games and he was a beast, the mark ingram now has no fire and i'm fed up waiting for another game to rule, 3rd and an inch is impossible for ingram to get, just sick of him.

Some of you folks really needed to take your Ingram hater glasses off for a little while. The dude is a good running back.
