Roger Goodell said Wednesday that the NFL will refund the money it has received to conduct acts of “paid patriotism,” reports Eben Novy-Williams of Bloomberg News.

The NFL — along with several other professional sports leagues — has been accused of profiting from the events it puts on to honor US military members before and during games.

According to Arizona senators Jeff Flake and John McCain, the Pentagon has provided $9 million for staged patriotism events over the past four years

Should have never taken it in the first place. I get that's it's advertising, networks take money for their commercials but come on, the Soldiers are there. Yes they get to see the game but they also have to be in uniform. People also love it more so than cheerleaders, at least I hope so at the end of the day. None of it is possible without people defending it with their lives.

That's probably the best solution, continue the events but donate the money to a veteran's organization. No harm, no foul.
