Herschel Walker: Players Received 'Hush Money' From NFL to Stand for Anthem

"The league gave the players a large sum of money toward their cause. That's hush money," he said, adding that players never should have been kneeling in the first place.

Walker said Colin Kaepernick would not have begun kneeling for the anthem if he was the San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback, rather than the backup, in the 2016 season.

I agree with him other than when he said they had a "great cause". If the cause were rooted in facts and the players were crusading for said cause, then you could say at least it's a worthy cause, but wrong venue.

Every time I hear someone say "great cause", it makes me cringe. It's a black lives matter, racist cause, where the goal is to seek "revenge" on their false perceptions of "white America", that they've based on isolated instances. Statistics clearly show the opposite of what BLM claims. This kind of garbage is what keeps people divided, and as long as people pat these players on the back, and try to appease groups like BLM, then we're not going to solve that problem.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

DING!

People out here in Niner land understand this. His 'protest' at the time had as much to do with his playing and contract status than it did any other thing, but the media didn't get on board at that time. They piled on later and did not do their homework (or deliberately didn't report fully) and the whole Kaepernick nonsense was born.

Precisely. Which is why I don't know why Herschel calls it a "great cause" when he is acknowledging the truth about why Kaepernick was sitting on the bench, and later kneeling, during the Anthem. He makes a good point, and then almost refutes himself. I think too many people out there are still afraid to speak out fully against what these protests are about, and not just what started them.

All in all, though, at least Herschel is willing to speak to part of the Kaepernick myth.
