Gronk: I won’t be at Patriots’ workouts, I’ve got dirt biking to work on
Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski isn’t planning to show up for the team’s voluntary offseason workouts, and he isn’t shy about explaining why: Right now his focus is dirt bikes.
Gronk was at Gillette Stadium today not for the Patriots but for a Supercross Foxboro event, and when asked what he’s been up to recently, he answered, “I’ve been training for this dirt biking.” Wearing full Supercross gear, Gronkowski was asked whether he’ll be at the Patriots’ upcoming voluntary workouts. “No,” Gronkowski answered. “I’ve got dirt biking skills to work on.” PFT

Then retire from football. You don't get paid millions of dollars to do whatever you want and break a leg, or your back, getting thrown off a dirt bike.
If biking is your new passion, then quit football and give up whatever remaining money is guaranteed to you (as if he would have that much integrity). |

This is one of those, pay me more to stay home and be ready for football tactics...
But if he busts his arse and is unable to play, he should have to pay back whatever prorated signing bonus remains on the contract, plus void the guarantees... |

Voluntary? That's the excuse you give him? So, not being a leader and showing up, but putting yourself at great risk while chasing a HOBBY, instead, is okay because the workouts are voluntary? When you are making millions to play football?
This kind of attitude is yet another example of how professional athletes are out of control. They play a game, they get paid like kings, and yet they think it's cool to just do what they want. And, apparently, some people are cool with letting them get away with that. I'd tell any player who pulls this garbage to pack his bags and find someone else to pay him his unrealistic demands. He is almost ALWAYS hurt, anyway. And now he's doing this dirt biking, and thinks somebody owes him something? |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.
