Report: Falcons tell Julio Jones he won’t get a raise before 2018 season

this is a discussion within the NFL Community Forum; He should do whatever he can to maximize his earnings. I damn sure wouldn’t be worried about honoring contracts where all my money isn’t guaranteed. Hopefully he forces his way out of the NFC South....

Julio should fire his agent, blame himself for signing a bad deal. If I'm the Falcons GM, I make sure the other guys are paid first before I look at his deal...

After having him the last few years in FFball, he's no longer a consistent week-in, week-out threat, but a few monster games vs lesser teams...

It was a decent deal when he signed it. He’s lived up to the deal. Back to back 1,400 yard seasons. He had a 1,800 yard season prior to that, and a 1,600 yard season before that. Careers end every day. I see no problem with him trying to get more money from the billion dollar organization he plays for. He’s he best player on that team by far.

I fully expect Julio to be suited up and ready to go by game 1 of the regular season. Arthur Blank will find a way to make his super star happy... again.

Again, players should consider signing shorter contracts if they want to control their future earnings.

They want the security too. That’s why the contracts should be fully guaranteed.

That's exactly what's wrong with other sports, especially MLB, contracts should never be guaranteed; Jairus Byrd? Once paid, that was it - nothing...

Bird called it The Big Mo referring to players that shut it down once paid; later it became the Roger Dorn Effect (i.e. Major League)...

What makes more sense is an average market standardizing of performance-based incentives, bonuses pay tied to the salary cap/television revenue...

Performance-based would be tied to things like games/snaps played, Team W.A.R. statistics (team success with player contributing), and individual stats...

Not as weighted - pro-bowls, all-pro/mvp honors as those honors are often unfairly skewed to larger, favorable NFL markets (the same ole 10 teams)...

At the end of the day, Julio signed a contract, took his up-front money and spent it and it's on him to be responsible with his money...

Same as a contractor, electrician, plumber, mason, mechanic, painter quoting a rate - they have to honor an agreed rate, so should football players...

For what it's worth, Falcons felt they're playing it smart and not allowing one of their top players become a distraction - but they're screwed long-term in negotiations...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
