Kelce on Mahomes: 'His knee didn't even look like a knee'

Kansas City Chiefs guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is a medical school graduate but didn't need any particular knowledge to immediately realize the severity of Patrick Mahomes' right knee injury.

"Everybody could have known something was wrong," Duvernay-Tardif said.

Mahomes dislocated his right kneecap in the second quarter of Thursday night's game against the Denver Broncos. It was quickly massaged back into place by members of the Chiefs' medical staff, but the quarterback left the game at that point and didn't return.

Tight end Travis Kelce said, "His knee didn't even look like a knee. It was all out of whack. I couldn't even describe it."

Hope recovers quickly.

Therein lies the challenge with running QBs. We've seen it all before.

If that had been Brees I would have been furious at Payton. Who in their right mind makes that call, of a QB sneak with an already-wounded player, when you're stacked with receivers and running backs in that situation?

Are any of us going to miss him in the Superbowl?

But what about those short yardage "leaps" that Brees does on 3rd and goal over the years? In my eyes, that form of QB "sneak" is just a dangerous.

Andy Reid.

I will never understand why people constantly pick KC as a Super Bowl favorite. Reid has proven time and time again, no matter how close his teams may be to the big game, he'll find a way to screw it up.

His playoff record so far in K.C. looks eerily similar to how it looked through the early years in Philly.

Reid hates running the ball. It was like this back when Smith was the QB and he did this for years in Philly. It's one of the essential reasons he is poorly skilled in clock management.

This injury could severely hurt Mahomes' play style. He is like Aaron Rodgers and both of them depend far too much on their athleticism and legs than picking apart defenses. For years Packers fans have argued that Rodgers is better when he's hobbled because then he's forced to make quicker decisions and not hold onto the ball forever trying to find a big play down field. Mahomes has this same issue with his play style.

Well the leap (with extending the ball) is one of Brees' most famous bread-and-butter plays. He's a warrior and he's done it many, many times throughout his career. And usually with the patented leap and dive, Brees usually goes UP and lands on top of the pile, whereas the Mahomes sneak had him running into the scrum and into the pile and ending up hitting the ground at the bottom of the pile. It's really two totally different types of plays, in terms of where the QB's body ends up and how much contact they get.

But I'm talking about IF Payton called that play while Brees already had a serious ankle injury? That would be a completely different matter. My point was that Mahomes was already injured when that play was called....it's reckless and irresponsible to do that with your franchise QB.

Re: Kelce on Mahomes: 'His knee didn't even look like a knee'

The reason we and New England both convert so many short yardage situations on 3rd and inches or 4th and inches, is because they both go no huddle and the QB quickly does the leap while the defense is resetting and off guard.

That wasn't the same here. The Chiefs ran the clock down, as Andy Reid always does and Denver had time to plan for it.

Blame it on the Madden Curse.

If Sean Payton retired or went to Dallas, ;), Andy Reid, Sean McDermott, Bruce Arians, or Ken Whisenhunt would be on my short list and Reid would be out front...

I talk football with some Cowboys fans who are old timers, and they 100% believe the reason they're stuck with the clapper is cause Jerrah just can't get over the fact he let Payton go and he turned us into a powerhouse team.

He does have knock-knees due to his effeminate build. This isn't a knock on him, it's just how his body is. You can clearly see this with how his knees stick out when he gets in position to pass.

I read a bunch of comments from Chiefs fans and they have to be the most deluded fan base I've seen in years. Many of them think this is nothing serious and he'll be back 4-6 weeks and pick up where he left off. That is simply absurd with this injury. Mahomes is like Aaron Rodgers in many ways and just like Rodgers, he overly relies on his legs to make plays. Take that away from him and I wonder what kind of quarterback he really is. As I said before; Packers fans have argued for years that Rodgers plays better when he's hobbled cause it forces him to make quicker decisions instead of rolling out and taking a bunch of hits/sacks and looking for the big play. Mahomes has this same habit trying to throw bombs down field.

If the Chiefs are stupid enough to rush him back out there, teams are going to target his knee and start blitzing heavily. Mahomes was beginning to prove in the prior weeks that he is pretty mortal against blitzes when teams bring the pressure. But now? He's going to get blitzed heavily and knocked around constantly. This could lead to long term damage easily.

If he comes back in time for the Pats game, I'm calling it now that they'll end his season. He won't survive against their pass rush.

His ankle will heal nicely in this time

So now he's out 3 weeks minimum.

Chiefs are going to be idiots and rush him back out there. The risk of him dislocating it again are HIGH.

They should sit him for the rest of the year and let it heal, not risk him getting hurt worse.
