This is a huyuge mistake on this owner's part, Huyuge - they've been hamstrung with an inaccurate quarterback for several years; they were on the right track, with a rookie quarterback, no less...

Huyuge mistake for them. Huyuge opportunity for the Saints. It will take a minimum of two years for a new coaching staff to put together a team capable of challenging for the NFCS title. Considering the cluster*ck that calls itself a football team over in ATL, Tampa may be the only challenger for the next two or three years. Let's hope they don't dump the head case they have at QB.

Riverboat Ron fired

The Carolina Panthers have fired Ron Rivera. https://www.panthers.com/news/caroli...ach-ron-rivera

Re: Riverboat Ron Gets the Axe!

I'd say that Dan Quinn will probably be joining him in a few weeks.

I have no inside information, but I bet there was a huge dropoff in their season ticket renewals for next year. That's probably the only reason why they'd do this right now, instead of wait until the season ends.

I kinda wondered why now, but then I thought maybe this gives them a jump on finding their next HC cause you know other heads are bound to roll.

Re: Riverboat Ron Gets the Axe!

Yeah, it's just that season ticket deadlines are usually right around now -- I literally just sent in a payment for the Saints on a deadline right after turkey day - and if their ticket sales are really slumping up there in Carolina, they would probably want to do something URGENT to try and get the market flowing again. I would imagine the Panthers are probably getting hit with a wave of cancellations for next year, as people realize that Cam Newton is almost done, the window is closed, and the disappointing season they've had this year. That's just my take on it. The final deadline to renew is usually sometime early in the new year.

He's the main reason I hate Carolina. I know they are a rival, but so is Tampa Bay, and I don't hate Tampa Bay. But Cammy, I can't stand to watch him walk on the field.

The somewhat new GM and owner want their own guy, but wonder who they have in mind?

Re: Riverboat Ron Gets the Axe!

This is a weird move. Rivera just transitioned the defense to more of a 3-4 and seemed ready to move on from Cam Newton and build around McCaffrey as a real ground and pound team.

I think he gets another shot somewhere as a head coach. I could see him bringing some much needed discipline and mental toughness to the Browns. Or, maybe the Giants with the Dave Gettleman connection.

Browns organization is too stupid to do this. He'd make that D brilliant, though.

I was actually thinking Cowgirls...Jerruh probably isn't gonna stick with Garrett after they 1) lose in Wild Card Rd or 2) not even make playoffs. Rivera is a better fit in Dallas with the young talented D and a run centric offense.

Dang! :bang:

He was always good for two wins each year.

I thought it was too soon to fire him.

Maybe it was the comment he made saying he not worried about his future?

If Payton were to go to Dallas if Brees retires I would take Ron. The Payton to Dallas thing in the past didn’t have legs because of what he has set up here already around a HOF QB.
The Cowboys have the talent but lack the coaching. He could walk into a great situation to win a SB his first year.

How dare you suggest a possible Cowboys SB win.

Even with Louisiana teams success of the last many years, hard to not see Sean Payton going somewhere and winning 4 SBs.

Like Nick Saban, he never did for LSU what he did for Alabama, he got us one championship over OU but then he would go and lose to teams like Iowa in a bowl game.
