How close are you to giving up on the NFL?
I used to live and breathe anything NFL related. Magazines, blooper reels, draft information, video games... Now I find myself uninterested and agitated by the NFL. I loved certain players and loathed others. I used to joke that Earl Campbell was my first love. That was before the 24 hour coverage, internet and social media. The games immediately after 9/11 were a catharsis from the cowards that flew into our buildings killing thousands of Americans. Multiple football players were seen at those games running on to the field waving the American flag and it was a form of respite from the sadness I felt from the acts of those terrorists. But now? Now many NFL players want you to feel ashamed of that same flag. And if you aren't ashamed of it you're an ignorant "phobe" or "ist" of some form or another. The United States of America isn't a perfect utopia. Like other countries it has it's ugly issues but I'm convinced that it's still the best place on the planet. It's my home and my people and I truly hate what's going on right now. It feels like a sibling that has a substance addiction that won't listen to you as you reach out to help. Like Drew Brees, I have my reasons for being proud of what the flag truly represents. To see his own teammates trash him on twitter has me thinking that he should retire now because the future will surely be worse than it was in the past. I'm close to giving up on the NFL and I keep wondering what the next straw will be for me if I don't just cut the cord now. I guess the NFL kind of feels like I'm losing a family member when I think about shutting it out for good. |

Re: NFL Football
I am so close. I have totally stopped watching the NBA, and NFL except for my Saints.
If they start the kneeling again I'll probably just quit watching. Most of today's players are just unwatchable clowns. |

Re: NFL Football
I'm pretty close. Between all the ridiculous rule changes, obvious league bias for big market teams, poor officiating, and now the political side show its turning into, my patience is worn very thin. Sports used to be something you could watch or participate in to have a break from your troubles and stress. These days it's practically a source of trouble and stress. I don't see it getting any better from here unfortunately. The league will continue to be pressured by the media and "social justice" groups to promote their causes, and I expect they will continue to bend the knee. It's a safe bet to say football will be unwatchable within 10 years, and quite possibly within 5. I'll get what enjoyment I can while I can, and walk away when the time comes. I don't look forward to it, but I'm prepared for it.
