NFL TNF Ratings: 10 Year low

The ratings dive amounts to a 10-year low for the NFL and NBC. Over virtue seasoning causes a lot of dishes to go back to the kitchen. That's ok. Many of us will wait. Just fix it.

And not virus related. It should be more viewership with more home, not less. It should be an all time high. Nothing else to do. Chlorine in the drinking water is good. Kills a lot of bad stuff. Put too much though and it starts killing people because it's a POISON. There is a balance.

Can't say I'm surprised the numbers are down. Actually just surprised that people are surprised.

No doubt a 10 year low for NFL and NBC. The comparisons are against the NBC Sunday Night Football numbers which are always the highest rated NFL games every week.

Last season's opener was broadcast by FOX, not NBC. The NBA playoffs, the NHL playoffs and the US Open were all on at the same time this year ... none of which were competing for time against previous NFL season openers.

As it was it was by many times over the most watched program during the 8 PM-11 PM time slot last night.

Apples and oranges, my friend. :D But, by all means, you keep boycotting if it makes you feel better about yourself.

:bng:

Oh, and television revenues were UP by double digits over last year's season opener. That's the number that counts.

Numbers should be sky high. Most can't eat out or go anywhere. If you want to ignore that fact then that is your right. Thankfully people like your father an myself fought for your right to say whatever nonsense you want at anytime. Just so long as you don't hurt anyone physically or financially. Disgraceful use of that freedom but I allowed you to have it so have fun.

And you, of course, have your right to share your brand of nonsense. All I know is I have my NFL and my Saints football and I couldn't be any happier.

My brand of nonsense is fighting for your freedom to perpetuate your brand of nonsense. As long as it doesn't hurt anyone physically or financially carry on.

Reality is ratings are down. Last I checked it's -16 plus %. If you don't want to have any honor and accept that fine, please continue. I do fight for your freedom to peddle nonsense. I may call it out but I gave you this right. I earned it for you. Me and your Dad.

Last I checked only one game of sixteen have been played this week, right? The initial ratings as compared to the FOX broadcast of the first Thursday night game is down at this time, but it is comparing apples to oranges. Kansas City and the Texans are both among the lower end of rating drawers to begin with. On top of that it was up against two playoff games AND the semi-finals of the US Open primetime broadcast. By the way, it still drew far more viewership than all three of those combined. Let's see what Sunday night's NBC numbers look like compared to last year's NBC Sunday night numbers. If they are down you might be onto something. Less viewers. But, not less revenues. Revenues are not tied to viewership numbers. They are tied to advertising.

You see, advertisers have fixed budgets for their advertising dollars. The pandemic has brought a halt to the production of new programming. The advertisers are not wanting to put their money behind repeats. That is why revenues were up in last night's game by over 10% over last year's. Even if for some reason NFL viewership was to be down by a small margin it is still going to be the highest rated shows on TV every week by a colossal margin. That you cannot deny. The NFL, especially in today's television market, gives advertisers by far their greatest bang for the buck.

After all is said and done, I expect, as do the experts, that viewership will be up on the whole and without a doubt advertising revenues are going to be up regardless of the final level of ratings. This, of course, can change if NOBODY watches, but it is already apparent that is not to be the case.

Oh, and once again, thanks for your service and there is no need for you trying to shed any light upon my father's service ... I was right there for all thirty years and knew him and learned from him for my first 58 years of life. I have had a few thousand more conversations with him than have you about everything including politics and human rights.

I hope you read what I just replied concerning my father. I take what Beast said as an insult to my father's memory. I knew and loved him and respected him more than either of you. I knew where he stood on issues and it helped form my own personal beliefs. I also take the fact that you find it so humorous and valid and deserved then I take that as added insult.

Revenues are up for many reasons, including very wealthy corporations who, regardless of numbers of viewers, are willing to pour a ton of money into the NFL for the social justice platform alone. But mainly bc last year 41 of the top 50 most watched TV events were NFL owned and operated! That’s not insignificant. Viewer population (aka product consumption) is something that defines the quality of a product, any product. Revenues can be astronomical even if a product isn’t even marketed and sold (consumed), it just means that the company who is advertising their idea is wealthy, extremely wealthy. And once again, US company’s are stupidly wealthy, at least the ones that advertise on an NFL product.

And the viewer numbers were an absolute apples to apples comparison. It wasn’t a weighted average of all the games in a season. That rating that Beast is discussing is Opening night 2020 NFL to Opening night 2019 viewers. It doesn’t get much more of a fair comparison. Who knows what the future ratings brings? We’re all just guessing on that one. What we DO know is that ratings from opening night last year to opening night this year was double digits lower. Not to mention the apparently very audible boo birds that even had players on the field tweeting “WTH” folks.

Lastly, nobody would be discussing your father had you not introduced the element into the conversation.
