NFL BS Bias

Players can say what they want on the field. This Panthers announcer was doing it off the field. FIRED. They don't like his politics...off the field. Screw the NFL. Hope they get sued and lose or any other employer who silences people outside of work.

From The Novel 1984

Winston Smith wrote:

"To the future or to the past, to a time when thought is free, when men are different from one another and do not live alone – to a time when truth exists and what is done cannot be undone: From the age of uniformity, from the age of solitude, from the age of Big Brother, from the age of doublethink – greetings!"

The United States Of The Offended is slowly morphing into the world of 1984
in which the Panthers announcer is guilty of "Thought Crime"

Also the song "For What It's Worth" ..........step out of line, the Man comes and takes you away."
Danno likes this.

"Your worst enemy, he reflected, was your own nervous system. At any moment the tension inside you was liable to translate itself into some visible symptom." Winston Smith

Re: NFL BS Bias

I agree as an independent contractor the Panthers should not have asked him to stop showing support for Trump. Heck, even if he was an employee and it was only on his private account they shouldn't be able to do that. But, if you read the whole article, he wasn't fired ... he is refusing to work.

Moreno added that he won’t return to work unless the team says he is free to advocate for whomever he supports politically. “I am not OK with them censoring my freedom of speech in support of the president,” he added.

He was going to be fired if he did not cut it out. He quit to save face but yes, technically he was not fired.

Doesn't change that applying pressure to some employees and not others exercising their personal freedoms outside of work is a vindictive and toxic policy. Nothing good will come out of taking that stance. No different than hating gays and telling the employee to stop going to gay pride parades, on their own time mind you.

I agree, the Panthers' stance was incorrect. He hasn't quit, however. He is just refusing to work. He's known as perhaps the most dynamic Spanish language announcer in all of sports. For years his calls have been replayed on both ESPN Radio and NFL Radio. He has some leverage and he's using it. I hope it works and they come to their senses.

You need to check out some of his work. He can make a short FG sound like a grand slam in the bottom of the 15th inning down by three in game seven of the World Series. The guy is a trip.

“The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” — Winston Churchill

Re: NFL BS Bias

I never heard him but anyone around 10 years on the pro level doing play by play is generating ratings.

There is supposedly a solid number of Panthers fans with no connection to the Carolina's whatsoever that became so just because of Moreno. He calls the game like those Spanish speaking announcers call soccer. LOL!
