Post Are the Chiefs making a mistake letting Trent Green go

I think in retrospect the Kansas City Chiefs may have treated a very loyal employee like Trent Green very badly, I say that retrospect part becuase he is going to be traded whether he likes it or not, and he will hate the team once he leaves. And yes I do feel badly for him, becuase this is the second time in his career he has been screwed by a coach, and by a NFL franchise that are within 200 miles of each other, St. Louis and Kansas City. He came to the Rams of course in 1999 and was injured in the pre-season of that year by rodney Harrison and was forced to watch Kurt Warner rise to superstardom from the bench and the dynasty of the Rams SB run in 99-01. He got screwed perhaps inadvertantly by being let go by the Rams in 2001 to the chiefs where it was assumed he would rot out the rest of his career with a bad team.

Those predictions were wrong. Because Trent Green proved them wrong. He made the best of a bad situation and turned the chiefs into a winner, he made the playoffs his third year and was constantly making them a contender with guys like Priest Holmes and Larry johnson making their collective marks along with him.

Now here's where I dont get: We have a new HC in Herm Edwards, he comes in , they go to the playoffs and lose but have a good showing but perhaps he sees Green as either getting too old or inadequate for Edwards system? and one has to ask: Why? Is Edwards trying to dupilcate what he did in NY and Chad Pennington or is he screwing over Green becuase of a bad contract dispute and angry feelings resume on both sides? Is Edwards really to blame for this at all or is it KC's FO politics that causing this?

I remember Drew Brees being angry at San Deigo for screwing him in favor of Philip rivers, and he left the chargers bitterly trying to prove a point. and he did prove a point. He took a team to the NFC Championship game last year in the Saints.

That situation reminds me of bit of the current Green problem in KC. You have a good QB, a loyal employee who has done wonders for the team over a near 10 year period, and he gets treated like dirt and felt unwanted by the team, and the FO. thats pretty cold IMHO and its unfair even for the down and dirty standards of the NFL and its business policies. Sure its unfair and you get screwed sometimes but Green has been screwed a lot by two teams, one by circumstance and now by neglect. If Brees can do a good job and he is driven by a motivation to prove his doubters wrong, so can Trent Green, revenge is a powerful motivating factor and Herm Edwards should know that and so should the Kansas City Chiefs.

Their making a mistake by letting him walk and it will come back to haunt them.
