2011 Maafa Commemoration of the slave trade is Saturday
The Ashe Cultural Arts Center presents the 11th annual Maafa ? also known as the holocaust of enslavement ? on Saturday, July 2, with a full day of activities commemorating the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. The day begins with a visit to the Tomb of the Unknown Slave at 6:30 a.m. in Congo Square at Armstrong Park (835 N. Rampart St.) and includes music by Morikeba Kouyate, Titos Sompa, the Mohawk Hunters Mardi Gras Indians and others, followed by a procession to historical points of interest.?
