Is there any way to transfer programs from my Tivo receiver to my CPU without destroying either or negating warranties?

Is this a stupid question?

It\'s possible with TV, if you have the right components. You might be able to hook the same system up with the tivo unit, I\'m not 100% on this because I\'ve never tried it, and deceive it into thinking that, with the right setup, mind you, your computer is your \"VCR\", if that makes any sense.
I would first call your local CompUSA and price either an ATI All-In-Wonder video card, or some other TV Tuner card. Then I would find out if your current computer is adequate enough to support said card (more than likely). You then would run your computer through coax cable to either the TV or the tivo box, and see what happens. The flexibillity and software that comes with the All-In-Wonder card should provide you with everything you need to convert those games to mpeg format.

Yeah, you\'ve been out of action alot here lately, so I figured you were busy. Still waiting on that Madden rematch, I believe the series is at 1-1.

Those video cards expensive? Is the card something I would have to get installed or is it a plug-and-play type deal?

Sounds like I just need to stick to the ole VCR.

Most definitely on the rematch. I\'ve been jonesin for a good game lately. Bought Madden 05, and I don\'t really like it better than 04. Some of the extras are a bit cheesy. I may grow to like it better. I haven\'t had much time to play yet. NCCA is awesome, though. You need to break down and get an Xbox.

I almost called you two weekends ago. Went through Dallas. The trip was too quick, though.

Next Tuesday or Wednesday nights are good for me. Nine or ten-ish. Let me know what works for you.

The A-I-W could run you around $100-125 for a lower end, and just a regular TV Tuner card will run you around $50-60. To me, it\'s worth spending the extra for the A-I-W card, just for it\'s functionality. When you sit and read all the things you can do with it-

I see that ATI also has something called a TV Wonder, which sounds like both an external version of the A-I-W or a newer version of their old TV Tuner card, and is cheaper ($75.00)

Uh, correct me if I\'m wrong, but don\'t those things only \"map\" the first 100 to 200 channels? If you have Directv that\'s the locals and pay-per-views and that\'s it. I thought that\'s exactly why all pay programming for Directv starts at 200. B/c these devices (which are perfectly legal) and the descramblers (which are not) generally only descramble the lower channels... is that not the case?

Good point, and it\'s up to 150 channels, which I completely forgot about.
But his original question was about the tivo unit itself, which he might be able to setup the software into tricking the tivo unit into thinking it\'s a VCR, I\'m not sure, but there might be a work around for it.

It\'s actually relatively easy (or so I hear) to hack your Tivo so you can transfer things back and forth to a comp. Problem is, the second you touch the thing the warranty is voided. So there\'s a risk.
