Former governors to appear as panelists at LSU

Former Louisiana governors' Kathleen Blanco, Edwin Edwards, Murphy "Mike" Foster and Buddy Roemer are slated to be on a panel discussing the last four decades of government. The LSU Public Administration Institute and the Public Administration Institute Student Association will host PAISA Day in The Rotunda of the Business Education Complex.

The governors will tackle the following topic: "The Evolution of State and Local Government: A discussion about the last 40 years."

The panel, set to begin at 1 p.m. on April 17, will be moderated by Jim Engster, host of "The Jim Engster Show" on NPR in Baton Rouge.

"This will be a very rare event, regarding the four governors' panel," PAI Director Jim Richardson said in a news release. "It will be just one of the many highlights for us on that day."

Richardson said one the highlights will be the awarding of PAI's MPA Alumnus of the Year Award to Patrick Goldsmith, who serves as the director of the House Fiscal Division for the Louisiana House of Representatives.

"We are looking forward to a great afternoon with the honoring of Patrick (Goldsmith) and an opportunity to hear from four people who have keen insight on the highest of state levels to talk about not only the past four decades but where they see our state and local governments operating in the future," Richardson said.

Students and the general public are invited to attend the panel, but standing room will be available only on the second and third floors of The Rotunda.
