Favorite Restaurant

For those of you who live in the city or visit often, what is your favorite restaurant? I don't live in N.O. but I visit about 5-6 times a year for several days. I personally love Deanie's. Nobody gives you so much for such a good price. If I have some extra cash then the best Italian food I've had was at a place called Carmella's.

Anybody have some suggestions for my next trip? I'd like to know about everything from your favorite poboy shop to blue plate lunches to fine dining. Any info is appreciated.

Up-scale: Clancy\'s
Hole-in-the-wall: Jacque Amos (might be the best food in the city).

Brennan\'s, since you already took Clancy\'s.
They just opened a Smith & Wollensky here in Dallas, but I have yet to see if it is as good as the original.
Is Carmella\'s the place on Royal where the wait staff sings opera? If so, I ate there on my last trip to NO and loved it.

I\'m a huge fan of Camelia Grill when it comes to a nostalgic lunch. They\'ve got some awesome burgers and chili-cheese fries. I can honestly say that I\'ve never had a bad experience there. But if you\'re looking for a good bargain for lunch, try Mother\'s. It can get crowded at lunchtime, but they\'ve got some awesome sandwiches.

Perisol\'s or Domilice\'s are your best bets for po-boys. They\'re the best at it in the city.

I\'m pretty biased when it comes to New Orleans cuisine. I prefer the more well known restaurants with deep roots in the city that serve New Orleans cuisine.

By the way, WhoDat, do you know where Jacque Amos is?

I\'ve been to Camelia Grill and Mother\'s. The burgers at Camelia were really good. I didn\'t like Mother\'s all that much. I did like the bloody mary\'s at the little place behind Mother\'s though.

If you\'re willing to go off the beaten path, Jack Dempsey\'s was one of the best meals in the city.

For a high end place I like Galatoire\'s as well as anyplace in the city, even if you have wait in line on Bourbon street.

Some day I want to set aside enough $$ to go to Commander\'s. Ah well........

Duck - first let me commend you for your picks. The grill, Mothers, Domilice\'s... you know good food my friend. Jacque Amo\'s is on Oak (I believe it\'s oak, I haven\'t lived in the City from 8 years so my memory might be slightly rusty) right next to the Maple Leaf bar... In between Carrolton and the River over sort of near where Riverbend used to be. Coincidentally, if any of you like sushi, Ninja is right over there too and that place is damn good also.

Man - now I can\'t stop thinking about the Grill. My buddy and I used to know every single waiter and short-order cook in the place. Seriously. Our normal order was the double cheeseburger, bacon, dressed, cheese fries, onion rings, chocolate freeze, and chocolate pecan pie a la mode. And since we were friendly our portions were unreasonably large... That\'s a heart attack just waiting to happen. It would be a good way to go out though!

Holy crap that sounds good. I\'m going to have to get over there soon! I\'ve never heard of Ninja, but I\'ve been to Rockin\' Sushi. I appreciate good food and it sounds like all of you do as well. Thanks for your responses. I have these places on my new list:

Jacque Amo\'s
Jack Dempsey\'s
Perisol\'s
Domilice\'s
Ninja sushi

One thing is for sure, if you can\'t find good food in New Orleans you aren\'t looking very hard. I\'m gonna end up looking like Paul Prudhomme if I move there.

Another thing for sure: when you live in New Orleans, your standards of cusine are unbelievably high. Every time I\'ve eaten in another city, it just doesn\'t compare...

P.S. Thanks for the directions WhoDat, I\'ll definitely be making a stop there soon. By the way, have you ever eaten at the Chicago Chop House? I\'ve heard that they\'re the best steakhouse in the nation...

You are so right, New Orleans ruins you for most other places (Nashville, Houston, DC, Baltimore, etc). Even mediocre New Orleans places are far better than you find in most places. A good example, I used to like getting sandwhiches at The Bakery on Elysian Fields over by UNO. Not even in shouting distance of the best sandwhiches in the city, but boy did I ever miss that place when I moved to Virginia.

I\'ve never eaten at the Chop House, but you\'d have to really be something to do better than Cattleman\'s in the stockyards in Oklahoma City.
