Spike Lee on gentrification

Spike Lee talked about (Alex Woodward has made me hate the word*"rant") gentrification for roughly seven minutes last night at an event*at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., the city where he was raised. Most of the effects of gentrification*Lee pointed out*could also be pointed out by New Orleanians:*reverse migration,*changing neighborhood names and boundaries,*newcomers with high expectations, newcomers wanting to stop*practices that have been in place for years,*what*constitutes*garbage, "Christopher Columbus syndrome,"*being priced out, neighborhoods finally*getting standard amenities when new people move in, etc.
