Settlement reached in lawsuit alleging religious persecution of Sabine Parish student
![]() The Sabine Parish school system and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) have reached a settlement in the case of a Buddhist sixth-grader whose family alleged he was being persecuted and harassed at his public school regarding his religious views.* In a February story, The Independent's Walter Pierce profiled the family and the school, where a large portrait of Jesus Christ hangs over the front entrance.* The case was settled March 14 at U.S. District Court in Shreveport.
