Cure and Don Julio wrap up Tales of the Cocktail ? on wheels
Tales of the Cocktail-goers often take the festival's closing nightcap at*Cure; this Sunday, July 20, the craft bar will spin its traditional Tales-end party by*hosting a mobile cocktail bar parked on their patio. "In the beginning, nobody understood it," says Airstream Speakeasy co-owner and bartender Marshall Altier of the rolling "craft on draft" concept, which he launched last year with friends Ben Scorah and Mark Wiseberg. "To be at Tales of the Cocktail has been a dream come true." The 27-foot luxury "land yacht" is retrofitted with a custom bar, including four tap lines that dispense wine, beer, juice, soda or, for Sunday's event, Altier's cocktails based on Don Julio, in a nod to the tequila brand sponsoring their Airstream Speakeasy summer tour. The Airstream cocktails include a reposado and strawberry-beet shrub sipper; tequila blanco with coconut water and falernum; and blanco with cucumber and lime cordial ? all carbonated and refreshing. Inside, Cure alums will be among the bartenders serving Southern bites and drinks from Cure's Tales menu, plus two specialty cocktails: Ryan Gannon's Aperol-based Once Over, a low-proof riff on the Mai Tai with a bit of Don Julio's 70th anniversary anejo, housemade orgeat, lime and mint; and AlecBarber Grossi's Spanish vermouth paired with Suze (a bittersweet, floral liqueur), Don Julio reposado and lime bitters. The last one's named The Comedown, well-named as this Tales comes to a close.? [ Read more ] [ Subscribe to the comments on this story ] |
