Housing Summit kicks off planning series on affordable housing in New Orleans
The Greater New Orleans Housing Alliance (GNOHA) will launch a series of affordable housing planning sessions with a kick off event this Saturday, May 30. The 2015 Housing Summit is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at A.L. Davis Park (2600 LaSalle St.) and will act as a day-long "listening session" for residents to share their housing stories and needs while GNOHA will offer information "critical to understanding our current neighborhood realities," according to organizers.
It's the first event in the HousingNOLA planning series, which aims to develop a plan for affordable housing in New Orleans and make recommendations to city- and statewide policy makers. HousingNOLA's principle goals are to ensure residents spend no more than 30 percent of their income on rent or housing costs (they currently spend, on average, more than 40 percent), and its housing plan will call for sustainability, improving quality of life, increased access for special needs residents, and fair, nondiscriminatory housing practices.*Visit the HousingNOLA website for more details.
