King James & the Special Men begin Monday night residency at Sidney's Saloon

Beginning this Monday, June 8, Bywater's rock 'n' roll and rhythm and blues royals King James & the Special Men move their acclaimed Monday night gig from BJ's Lounge to Sidney's Saloon (1200 St. Bernard Ave.), the recently renovated and reopened barroom in Treme.

The shows at BJ's Lounge were intimate, freewheeling concerts co-headlined by a pot of red beans and rice, and the long-running gig has grown in popularity. It's been hailed and name-dropped by Hurray for the Riff Raff ("get me back home to BJ's on a Monday night," sings Alynda Lee Segarra on "Crash on the Highway") and The New York Times, in the famed "kale" piece in which the author said the band teleported the crowd "to some out-of-the-way roadhouse from the ?50s."

In a statement announcing the move, bandleader Jimmy Horn said, ?We?ve had a great run at BJ?s over the last five years but wanted to give y?all some more room to dance."

And Sidney's has the room ? new owners Robert Clark and Tara Weberg reopened it this spring after renovations.*King James & the Special Men will perform every Monday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
