Following a*shooting that left nine people dead at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C. on Wednesday night, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu ordered today for all New Orleans and U.S. flags on city property to remain at half staff through July 4 ? and he requests residents do the same. A statement from the mayor's office says the order is "in remembrance of and out of respect for the lives lost to hate and violence on the streets of America,*as well as the nine lives lost in Wednesday?s shooting."

?It is past time for us to come together and stop the endless cycle of hate and violence that is taking too many precious lives from our communities," Landrieu said in a statement.? [ Read more ]
