John Prine, Shovels & Rope returning to New Orleans in December 2016

Folk and country singer-songwriter John Prine returns to New Orleans this winter with alt-country duo Shovels & Rope. The bands perform at the Saenger Theatre on Friday, Dec. 2.

The Grammy Award-winning songwriter last appeared in New Orleans with his often-funny, mostly heartbreaking storytelling over*two nights at the Civic Theatre in 2014, performing as a rollicking, stripped-down trio weaving raspy anecdotes through two hours of his songs, buoyed by three-part harmonies and his low growl.

Shovels & Rope ? South Carolina's husband-and-wife duo*Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent ? was set to perform at Hogs for the Cause April 1 but bad weather forced the gates to close.?
