Premiere: Guts Club, **** Bug

With her second album, New*Orleans songwriter*Guts Club wrings*uneasy country blues out of a singular, sad and weirdly funny vision of our cosmic gloom.

**** Bug is out this week as the first release on New Orleans-based label*Moderate Fidelity Records.*Stream it below via Gambit.

Guts Club is Lindsey Baker, here playing with her "**** Bugs"*Charles Lumar on upright bass, Adam Campagna on drums and piano, Jonathan Harris on steel guitar and James Fenwicke on trumpet.

Baker's imperfect, rust-colored voice forces us to listen a little harder and lean in a little closer*for a weird hug and a welcome into a*honky tonk netherworld, pruned of its mold and moss to reveal an*"Ugly Igloo," "Whale Legs" and*"Beer Horses." Baker fills a world of compound nouns with gray-colored details, carving out meaning from vivid memories and dreams and coming up short, or rolled in a rug and forgotten or swallowed whole by a whale.*Made all the better with a sweet lap steel and barroom piano.
