Pres Hall's Ben Jaffe to discuss Lee Friedlander and jazz at NOMA
In portraits surrounding the New Orleans Museum of Art's Great Hall lobby, jazz artists and other musicians are captured by the vivd framing of photographer Lee Friedlander, whose work is presented in the museum's Lee Friedlander: American Musicians*through June 17 and Lee Friedlander in Louisiana through Aug. 12. As they come to a close, Preservation Hall's Ben Jaffe will discuss the jazz artists on Friedlander's prints, as well as the founding of the venerable jazz hall and its alums, with*Russell Lord, NOMA?s Freeman Family Curator of Photographs, Prints, and Drawings. In his review of the exhibitions, Gambit's D. Eric Bookhardt wrote*that "Friedlander's deeply psychological sensibilities and contrapuntal buoyancy are eloquently on view. As Preservation Hall Creative Director Ben Jaffe once described his approach: 'You have to understand the rhythm of life to document life.'" The discussion is 3 p.m.-4 p.m.? |
