Cedric Richmond defends Maxine Waters, calls out critics for hypocrisy over outrage
In a statement as head of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), U.S. Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-New Orleans, defended U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, who encouraged public resistance against*members of President Donald Trump's administration in the wake of reports of thousands of immigrant children being separated from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Her comments followed reports of White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders being asked to leave a Virginia restaurant, and diners at a Mexican restaurant in Washington D.C. booting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielson.
"Let's make sure we show up wherever we have to show up," Waters told a crowd in California June 23, "and if you see anybody from that cabinet, in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and push back on them, and you tell them they're*not welcome anymore, anywhere. We've got to get the kids connected to their parents.?
