UPDATE Hornets NO DEAL with Celtics assistant Thibodeau
Ken Trahan of NewOrleans.com reports: As we have speculated for weeks now, it appears that Portland assistant coach Monty Williams will become the new head coach of the New Orleans Hornets soon.
According to a New York Post report, Tom Thibodeau of the Celtics has turned down the offer to become the head coach of the Hornets. New Orleans had placed a deadline on Thibodeau accepting the position after he was offered the job by Hornets Executive Jeff Bower. Thibodeau remains a candidate for the vacant head coaching positions with the New Jersey Nets and Chicago Bulls. Should Doc Rivers retire at season's end, he would be a favorite to succeed Rivers as the head coach in Boston. A source tells NewOrleans.com/Sports that Thibodeau has had concerns over the ownership situation in New Orleans and views Chicago as an attractive situation while feeling better about the New Jersey situation due to the presence of a new owner, Mikhail Prokhorov and a move to a new area and arena in Brooklyn in the in 2012.
