Anthony Davis Injury: Updates on New Orleans Pelicans Star's Finger and Return
New Orleans Pelicans star forward Anthony Davis will sit out the team's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday, Jan. 29, with soreness in his left index finger.
The Pelicans' official Twitter account reported on the injury: Davis should not be out for long at all, but this is a precautionary move by the team to preserve the talented big man's health. Jim Eichenhofer of Pelicans.com reported what head coach Monty Williams had to say on keeping Davis out of action: It just makes sense. We could’ve held him out last night, but he was so adamant about playing that I let him go. Now we have to be his brains and make sure he doesn’t hurt his finger more. But he should be ready for our next game.At just 20 years old, the 2012 No. 1 overall draft pick is already making his presence felt in the Association, leading the Pelicans in averaging 20.4 points and ranking first in the NBA with 3.3 blocks per contest. According to Eichenhofer's report, Davis initially dislocated the finger during the team's most recent 100-89 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. In that game, there was no question who the best all-around player on the floor was. Davis' dominance was evident on the stat sheet—he stuffed with 30 points, seven rebounds, three assists, one steal, a whopping eight blocks and zero turnovers. It's scary to think how good Davis will be with a few more years of development. That's part of Williams' motivation to sit Davis down: thinking long-term about the can't-miss cornerstone of the New Orleans franchise.
